Elena Gorokhova

Elena Gorokhova has exhibited with the Artists’ Union in Leningrad and St. Petersburg since she was elected a member in 1962. Gorokhova mainly works in tempera, colour pigment in egg yolk medium that she prepares herself.

Born in the city in 1933, she survived the lethal first year of the siege of Leningrad, only to be evacuated to the supposed safety of Stalingrad, where she was trapped in the combat zone on the west bank of the Volga. She returned to the Repin Art School and later the postgraduate Repin Academy of Arts.

Elena Gorokhova has the most wonderful design skills which she maintains along with her quiet sense of humour, to produce an astonishing variety of work. Lacy Gallery sells about as many of her paintings as all our other very good artists put together.
