St. Petersburg is a wonderful source of paintings, but sourcing them is made difficult by problems such as accessibility, language and red tape.

After several years’ experience we know a great range of artists, from ancient academy professors to current students, and are fortunate to have our agent Oksana to keep them in order and sort out the bureaucrats.

We go there four or five times a year, enabling us to replenish our ever-changing display of around 80 framed paintings, oil sketches and works on paper.

Expeditions further afield to Krasnoyarsk and Irkutsk in Siberia, and to the Black Sea ports Yalta and Sebastopol have been rewarding. We hope to repeat them, and a trip to art schools in towns along the Volga is also being planned.
